Benefits of a Functional Wardrobe
There are many benefits of a functional wardrobe. A functional wardrobe will save you lots of time, money and effort and who has time, money and effort to waste these days? As soon as you step out of your front door, your image is on view to everyone around you. Wouldn’t it be great to step out looking good each time without having to think about it? We are all busy living our lives and a functional wardrobe goes a long way in minimizing unnecessary fuss.
Have you ever stopped to think about the number of hours you spend every week getting dressed? There are only 168 hours in a week, how much of this do you spend getting ready for work or functions? Do you know what percentage of clothes in your wardrobe you actually wear and how much you have spent on them? The average person spends anywhere between $2000 to $5000 a year on clothing related items. Over 5 years that adds up to expenditure of $10,000 to $25,000. Times the amount spent each year by the 55-60 years you will be purchasing clothes for and suddenly you are spending anywhere between $110,000 to $300,000 on clothing items over your lifetime. If you are wasting precious time and money, then your wardrobe in not working for you and you are not receiving the benefits of a functional wardrobe.
There are some easy and effective ways to create a functional wardrobe that you get plenty wear out of, not to mention saving you plenty of time and money.
We recommend that you go through your wardrobe at least once a year and remove any items you have not worn in 18 months. They are only causing clutter in your life and taking up valuable space in your wardrobe. Be honest with yourself. If you haven’t worn them in the last 18 months, will you really wear them again? Also get rid of any clothes that look old, tired or worn.
With Christmas and festive functions, now is a great time to do a quick wardrobe spring clean. Try sorting your wardrobe by shirts, skirts, pants, dresses and jackets. It is easier to see what you have and you can then mix and match your shirts and jackets with your pants and skirts. Sorting by colour can also be helpful as it is much easier to identify what colours you have and what ones you are missing.
Summer is all about colour and a great way to build your functional wardrobe is to buy clothes in your best colours. Your best colours automatically make you come alive and look younger. They also go a long way in giving you renewed confidence and who doesn’t like to look good?
Buying clothes in your best colours and styles will not only ensure they look great on you all the time but they are also easy to match with your other clothes giving you the added benefit of more outfits.
When you buy a clothing item or accessory, think about whether it will go with at least 3 or 4 other garments in your wardrobe. You can then mix and match them with other clothes to get more wear out of them.
Only buy a clothing piece if you absolutely love it or absolutely need it. You will always wear your favourite pieces.
Make sure the clothing item fits you. Allow for a bit of movement. If your weight fluctuates you will still get wear out of it over several seasons.
Accessories are an easy way to update your wardrobe and add some flair to your clothes. Try mixing and matching them with different outfits.
The more you know about the clothing styles and colours that suit you, the easier it is to dress and the more functional your wardrobe will be.
